How To Switch-Over to Ortho Tri Cyclen Birth Control Pills?


 

Switching from other birth control options to Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo

Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo is very convenient to switch-over from birth control pills and other options. Either you were on another pills or birth control options like birth control patch, Intrauterine-Devices (IUD), birth control ring, injection or implant. If you were on pills, you can easily switch-over to Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. Start the new pack of Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo when your next schedule from the previous pills is due. Either you can start from the first day of your periods or from the first Sunday. If you are Sunday starter, you will need back-up methods for next 7 days. First day starter, however, usually do not require any back-up methods like using diaphragm, condoms, sponges.

Please discuss with your doctor or healthcare professional before you decide to switch over Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo pills.

If you are switching from birth control options other than the pills as listed below then read the information carefully. Other birth control options you were using might be either one of them.

1. Non-hormonal birth control options like IUDs, condoms, diaphragm, birth control sponges. If you have been using either one of them then either you can start new pack of Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo from first day of your periods start within 24 hours or can start from first Sunday. If you are first Sunday starter then you will need back-up methods for protection for atleast next 7 days.

2. Birth control patch
If you were on birth control patch like Ortho Evra, same rules apply like pills. Use the third patch of the cycle and start using Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo pills from the fourth week. You can either start from the first day of your periods within 24 hours or first Sunday of the periods. If you are Sunday starter, you will need back-up methods for next 7 days. In case, you start immediately after the birth control patch cycle is over, you may not have a period in this month, as it would be expected otherwise.

3. Birth control vaginal ring
If you have been using birth control vaginal ring like NuvaRing, you will continue using it until its cycle comes to an end in the third week. Remove the ring as it was scheduled. Start using Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo pack in the fourth week. You can either start from the first day or first Sunday of your periods. If you are first Sunday starter, you will need back-up methods for next 7 days (1 week). In case, you start using the Pill immediately after the cycle is over, you might miss the period in that month, which would have been due otherwise.

4. Injection (Depo-Provera)
Depo-Provera injection is most commonly used. If you have been taking Injection then please consult your doctor or healthcare professionals when you could switch to Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo pills. Depending upon the doses, you may be required to wait for 4 to 13 weeks. Once your cycle for injection comes to an end, you may start taking pills either from the first day or first Sunday. If you are first Sunday starter, you will need back-up methods for 7 days or 1 week.

5. Implant
Implantable hormonal contraception is inserted and removed by doctor or healthcare provider. If you wish to switch to the pills, please consult your healthcare professional first. Upon his or her advise, you can switch to Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo birth control pills. Either you can start from the first day when your periods begin (but within 24 hours) or first Sunday. If you are Sunday starter, you will need back-up methods for 7 days (1 week) atleast.
