Switching from other birth control options to Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo
Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo is very convenient to switch-over from birth control pills and
other options. Either you were on another pills or birth control options like
birth control patch, Intrauterine-Devices (IUD), birth control ring, injection
or implant. If you were on pills, you can easily switch-over to Ortho Tri Cyclen
Lo. Start the new pack of Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo when your next schedule from the
previous pills is due. Either you can start from the first day of your periods
or from the first Sunday. If you are Sunday starter, you will need back-up methods
for next 7 days. First day starter, however, usually do not require any back-up
methods like using diaphragm, condoms, sponges.
Please discuss with your
doctor or healthcare professional before you decide to switch over Ortho Tri Cyclen
Lo pills.
If you are switching from birth control options other than the
pills as listed below then read the information carefully. Other birth control
options you were using might be either one of them.
1. Non-hormonal birth
control options like IUDs, condoms, diaphragm, birth control sponges. If you have
been using either one of them then either you can start new pack of Ortho Tri Cyclen
Lo from first day of your periods start within 24 hours or can start from first
Sunday. If you are first Sunday starter then you will need back-up methods for
protection for atleast next 7 days.
2. Birth control patch
If you were
on birth control patch like Ortho Evra,
same rules apply like pills. Use the third patch of the cycle and start using
Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo pills from the fourth week. You can either start from the
first day of your periods within 24 hours or first Sunday of the periods. If you
are Sunday starter, you will need back-up methods for next 7 days. In case, you
start immediately after the birth control patch cycle is over, you may not have
a period in this month, as it would be expected otherwise.
3. Birth control
vaginal ring
If you have been using birth control vaginal ring like NuvaRing,
you will continue using it until its cycle comes to an end in the third week.
Remove the ring as it was scheduled. Start using Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo pack in the
fourth week. You can either start from the first day or first Sunday of your periods.
If you are first Sunday starter, you will need back-up methods for next 7 days
(1 week). In case, you start using the Pill immediately after the cycle is over,
you might miss the period in that month, which would have been due otherwise.
4. Injection (Depo-Provera)
Depo-Provera
injection is most commonly used. If you have been taking Injection then please
consult your doctor or healthcare professionals when you could switch to Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo pills. Depending upon the doses, you may be required to wait for
4 to 13 weeks. Once your cycle for injection comes to an end, you may start taking
pills either from the first day or first Sunday. If you are first Sunday starter,
you will need back-up methods for 7 days or 1 week.
5. Implant
Implantable
hormonal contraception is inserted and removed by doctor or healthcare provider.
If you wish to switch to the pills, please consult your healthcare professional
first. Upon his or her advise, you can switch to Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo birth control
pills. Either you can start from the first day when your periods begin (but within
24 hours) or first Sunday. If you are Sunday starter, you will need back-up methods
for 7 days (1 week) atleast.
