Women Are Not Spared From Unplanned Pregnancies Even Wide Birth Control Options
Are Available
Earlier belief of unintended pregnancies among less
educated teens and women is found to be wrong when the recent report published
by National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy in Washington, D.C.
showed some shocking facts. It was found that unplanned pregnancies in teens and
women in 20's are rising even in the educated and higher income group of women.
These women are seemed to be sexually active and not keen to follow birth
control options.
With estimation, 1.1 million annual unintended pregnancies
are reported and 4 out of 10 are found in teens and single women in 20's. Out
of which, 2 women must have got higher school or college education. Its not true
that all these women are not aware about birth control option but majority of
them would still take the risk of unintended pregnancies.
We have been
believing at all for years that unwanted pregnancies are among less-educated,
careless and non-informed women who do not understand the complexity of having
unprotected sex. However, the fact is that society got more matured in understanding
the man-woman relationship and accepting the unwed relationship. The fast pace
of life gives lesser amount of time at disposal to busy working women for taking
care of their lifestyles. Perhaps, this could be the reason why women are not
taking birth control options seriously. About 23% of men and women aged 25 to
34 told researchers they had previously cohabited with a partner without it leading
to marriage.
Surprisingly, according to one report published by The Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention, 54% of unwed pregnant women prefer to give
birth and keep babies. The rate was 41% in 1990 and sharply risen by more than
30% in a decade! The rise of unplanned pregnancies is also responsible for the
rise of abortion in women, who do not want babies.
Well, the mystery is
still remaining unresolved as why many women do not resort to birth control and
contraception options in today's highly information-rich era. No wonder the rising
rate of unintended pregnancies is the matter of great concern. Or do we slowly
have to accept the perception of unwed motherhood? If not yet, then efforts must
be made to educate teens and women about the importance of birth control in order
to avoid unplanned pregnancies and abortions.
