The Battle of Advertising for the Best Birth Control Pills

Birth control pharmaceutical companies are using new methods to lure new clients and have an edge over their competitors. The new example is the ad from the popular birth control pills manufacturer of Alesse is “express yourself, try Alesse”. The company is trying to pursuit clients to buy Alesse birth control pill.

The similar trend is witnessed for similar brands like Yaz birth control, Seasonique, buy ortho Tri cyclen etc are the few to name. It is a known fact that majority of young women population are using birth control pills and other birth control methods to avoid unwanted pregnancies

The companies are also trying to disseminate information about female empowerment. It encourages women to take control over their PMS and related symptoms and express their individuality. It seems that contraception commercials are broadening from the basic perception of birth control pills.

Though, it is nicer that birth control commercials are talking more about women empowerment and individuality that spreads the need for birth control for women who do not want unwanted pregnancies. However, the television birth control commercials are trickier. In 1997, FDA allowed pharmaceuticals for “direct-to-consumer” advertising of medications that require prescription. This encouraged pharmaceuticals to spend more on TV commercials for their prescription medications. There is now no regulation required from federal to advertise condoms or birth control pills, however, the advertising pharmaceuticals will be required to present the ads in such a way that people do not feel offended.

Ortho Tri Cyclen was the first who advertised on TV for birth control pills in the year 2000

However, it becomes very frustrating when you see the high use of sexual content during birth control pills commercial advertising on TV which is watched by family in general. Rather than emphasizing on the need for birth control, advertisers are taking advantage of the cause and using sexual content as the medium of promotion. Unfortunately, it is increasing every year.

In my view, the birth control commercial advertising should be more informative and elucidative to avoid unintended pregnancies.
