Male vs Female Birth Control Pills

Though, the development of male birth control pills is still under clinical trial but many trials and research has shown that male contraceptives will have greater advantage over present female birth control pills. Male contraceptives will be targeting sperm and non-hormonal unlike female pills. Men and women have different reproductive orgasm. Due to different body orgasm in different women, they have to take the pills most suitable for their health. It will be, however, much easier for men to take fewer types of pills.

Women are required to take 21 or 28 days cycles pills to prevent unintended pregnancy. They are also required to take pills every day at the same time to remain protected throughout the month. If they miss any dose or they start taking pills from the first Sunday of their menstrual period, they may also need to take back-up methods like asking their male partner to use condom, use diaphragm or spermicides to prevent pregnancy. Some women who can not take pills everyday they may opt for other option like birth control patch, cervical cap, ring, implanon, IUD, implanon or Depo-Provera injection. But women are required to take any of these birth control options regularly to prevent themselves from unwanted pregnancies.

Many female combined oral contraceptive pills do have side-effects women have to go through until their bodies accustomed of birth control pills. Some of the side effects are nausea, migraine, severe stomach pain, bleeding, clotting, high blood pressure, clotting and even heart stroke. This could even lead to death. On the other hand, male contraceptives may not have such severe side effects. The reversible male contraceptives will immediately suppress the sperm production with no serious side effects.

None of female birth control pills can protect against STDs or HIV viruses but male contraceptives will be helpful in this case. As non-hormonal male contraceptives will not release the semen after ejaculation, chances of spreading infections and viruses will not exist. However, it is still recommended to use birth control methods like male condoms for further precautions.

Compared to female birth control pills, male contraceptives will be fast reversible. The clinical trials of non-hormonal pills have shown that male fertility would be returned to normalcy between 12-24 hours once he stops taking pills.
